A. Very short type of questions.

01.Q:- Why did the fail to snatch the purse of woman?

Ans:- The boy failed to snatch the purse of the woman, because the combine weight of the boy and the bag caused the boy to lose his balance on fall on his back on the road side.

02.Q:- What did the woman do with the snatcher?

Ans:- The woman turned around simply, kicked the boy and picked him up by his shirt front and shook him until his teeth rattled.

03.Q:- How did roger look like?

Ans:- The boy Roger looked like fourteen and fifteen years old, frail and willow-wild in his tennis shoes and blue jeans.

04.Q:- Why did the boy snatch the purse of Mrs. Jones?

Ans:- The boy 'Roger' wanted to buy a fair of blue suede shoes so, he tried to snatch the purse of Mrs. Luella Bates Washington Jones.

01.Q:- Sketch the Character of Mrs. Luella Bates Washington Jones.

Ans:- Mrs. Luella Bates Washington Jones, the main character of the short story "Thank You Ma'am", is a tall, healthy, bulky and elderly lady. She is a smart, kind and wise woman. She works in a hotel beauty shop and has to return late at night. She cannot tell Roger about past life, because it was not pleasant for her. She realizes that most of misdeeds(a bad and illegal work)  are committed out of the demand of situation. She is a quick discoverer of human character. So, she realizes that Roger is hungry. To rectify Roger, She advises him to wash his dirty face and comb his hair and cooks supper for him and gives him ten Doller to buy a pair of blue sued shoes. Roger was deeply impressed by her kind and motherhood treatment.

02. Q:- Why did Roger not tried to run away later although he had opportunity to do so?

Ans:- Mrs. Luella Bates Washington Jones kicked the boy and picked him up and dragged to her house. After arriving, she did not punish him and she did not called the police to send him to jail, but she advised him to wash his dirty face, dry his face with a towel and comb his hair. She cooked supper for him. She addressed him as her son and offered him to eat half of a ten-cent cake. After eating she him ten Dollars to buy a pair of blue sued shoes. Mrs. Jones behave with him like mother so, the boy was deeply impressed by the kind treatment of Mrs. Jones. So, Roger did not run away from her house, even he had an opportunity.

Ans:- In the short story "Thank You Ma'am" Roger is a boy of fourteen and fifteen years old. He is frail, dirty and willow-wild. He is an unwanted boy of the society. He often remains hungry late at night, because nobody cares for him. He is alone he doesn't get the chance to lest the love and kindness of mother. He is deeply impressed by her kind and motherhood treatment. As she advised him to wash his dirty face and comb his hair, she cooked supper for him. So, he does not want to be mistrusted her. In the story "Thank You Ma'am" finally Roger expressed his gratitude to Mrs. Jones by thanking her.

Ans:- While trying to snatch a big purse from alone lady on the way at night, the little boy was caught and taken by alone lady, Mrs. Jones. The boy was afraid of being handed over to the police or sent to the jail for snatching her purse. The woman advised him to wash his dirty face, dried his face with a towel and combed his hair. By this time the boy had understood that the lady had not intention to put him into jail or punish him. He could easy escaped with the purse. But he did not like to be mistrust her.

03. "I am very sorry lady, I am sorry."

Q:- Was the boy really sorry? Give the reason with support your answer?

Ans:- No, the boy was not really sorry. The boy was caught red-handed and kicked by the woman during latching her purse. She picked the boy up by his shirt front and shook him. The the boy begged the woman by saying that he was very sorry for latching her purse and he begged her to release him.

04. "The I would not turn you loose."

      "She did not release him."

Q:- Whom did not the woman release and why?

Ans:- When the woman was walking along the road alone at around 11:00 O' clock at night, a boy tried to latch he purse, but he lose his balance and fall on his back on the side walk and he was caught red-handed by the woman. She held the boy tightly so, that he couldn't run away. The woman wanted to rectify him by her kind and motherhood treatment. The woman asked him if he would run away if she turned him loose then the boy replied that if she would release him, he would run away. Then she replied the boy, "Then I won't turn you loose."

05. "The woman did not watch the boy the boy to see if he was going to run now, nor did she watch her purse, which she left behind her on the day-bed."

Q:- Why did not the woman watch the boy any more?

Ans:- Mrs. Jones had understood that Roger was ashamed of misdeed. She did not want to mistrust him any more. Roger was not a thief in her eyes. She released that most of his the misdeed are committed out of the demand of the situation so, she did not inform the police. When to cook for him, she left her purse on the day-bed. That is why she did not watch him while cooking.

06. "The didn't asked the boy anything about where he live, on his folk anything else that would embarrass."

Ans:- It was clear to Mrs. Jones that Roger was already ashamed. She knew that most of the misdeeds are committed out of the demand of the situation. She also understood that the boy was a victim of a society. If she embarrass him more, it would actually insult him. So he treated him like a kind mother. In real sense, Mrs. Jones wanted to rectify the boy.
